This habotai silk scarf has been dyed in a marigold dye bath. Prior to the dyeing process I picked maple and rose leaves which were laid on the silk and then wrapped into a tight bundle. This process allows some of the tannins in the plant material to be permanently set into the scarf during the boiling process, The marigold flowers were added to an iron mordant which affixes the colors into the fiber. The beautiful luster of the silk makes the scarf dance in the light.
58" long x 10" wide.
